To my favourite 5 year old...

This is Ben. He is my supervisor's son and I baby sat him and his sister once a week this past year. He's turning 5 today and I can't believe it! I still remember when he was just 2 years old, and now he is growing up before my eyes.

Seeing Ben and Annika every week this year taught me a lot about parenting, myself, and God. We had fun playing cars and imaginary games together, but we also had times where I had to discipline him or endure with him during his potty training problems.

Even still, I love him dearly. He has taught me how no matter what he does or what happens, I will always want the best for him. And I think that's how God feels about me, especially in this year where I had to really understand what it meant to be loved by the Father.

Being a caregiver to him has given me the confidence to be a parent and reshaped the way how I will raise my children. It will be likely that my children will be raised in community, allowing others to experience what I did simply because my supervisor and his wife trusted me enough to take care of their children.

So Ben, happy birthday. My prayer for you is that you follow Jesus faithfully as you continue to grow up, just as your mom and dad have done and taught me to do over the past 3 years.
