More than a challenge...

On Sunday, which was yesterday, I had the opportunity to preach with my colleague and good friend, Dan, at our church. We shared about the importance of being called together to be with Jesus and then being sent out to live the Gospel to the places He has called us to go.

The passage was based on Mark 3.13-19 and this has been an important passage for me personally, for the ministry, and for people around me. It is the basis of our work.

We call students, train them, and then send them out so that they can continue to be people who display God's love and transformation to those around them.

I really felt the Spirit moving in me as I was writing the sermon, and especially as I was preaching it yesterday. My hope and prayer is that people don't remember how God of a speaker/preacher I was, but that they remember the challenge God placed in them and then act on it.

A sermon is wasted if the only response is thinking about how good the sermon was preached. Sermons are meant to trigger thought and response with both words and actions. If we don't act on God's call, everything we hear is in vain.
