Tomorrow is the big day. I leave for Bangladesh, well, for orientation first, and then for Bangladesh on Monday evening. It has come so quickly. I still remember when I met the General Secretary of Bangladesh at Urbana, which was in December.
It has been a crazy journey getting to place, and there's no crazier story than our visas. I mailed our visa applications in 2.5 weeks ago and it arrived in Ottawa 2 weeks ago. For a while, I heard nothing or saw nothing in my mailbox, until last Thursday, when my director told me that one of the students had received a call from the High Commission in Ottawa, having questions about the place we were staying.
So last Friday and this Monday, I tried frantically to call the High Commission, and no one was there to answer my calls. It was quite frustrating, since we needed the visas by tomorrow at noon.
Finally, Tuesday morning, at around 9:15 a.m., someone answered my call and told me what the problem was. Within the next 24 hours, I prepared all the necessary paperwork and e-mailed it to the High Commission.
I asked my friend, who lives in Ottawa, to pick up the passports from them on Friday morning so that he can bring it to orientation on Saturday, since he'll be at our orientation location for the yearly Inter-Varsity conference, city/script. I ended up not needing his help because today, at noon, a package arrived for me. It was our passports, with all of our visas in them! I was so excited that I kept saying, "Praise God. Praise God."
If the visa process was smooth, I don't think I would have been reminded of how good God is, how perfect His timing is, and how He always provides.
With this experience under my belt, I think I am ready to embark on this global partnership.
