Signs of hope...

I visited my old coworkers today, those whom I worked with when I had a summer job in high school and university. And for the first time ever, I saw and felt hope in that place.

My friend who has been wanting to get out of his job finally decided that he is finished in September. He looks like he is full of joy at the opportunity to spend time with his kids and do something that is more fulfilling than pushing paper. He said the short term risk and sacrifice of not earning an income is nothing compared to the long term joy and fulfillment he will receive in doing something he wants to do.

Other old colleagues actually were intrigued about Bangladesh and why I even went. They heard my stories of seeing poverty and women in prostitution and wondered how I could keep their stories out of my head. I told them that I couldn't, that I had to share them with people in Canada. Yet, I also have hope and know that a better Life is awaiting them.

I was able to talk about the injustice that workers face in clothing factories and what we can do to make a difference. I even had a conversation with someone about religion and the importance of us seeing the wrongs that people have done in the name of their religion.

It's always good to see old friends, but today, it was extra special. I saw the seeds of hope planted in their lives. I pray that it will cultivate and grow, that it will lead them to rediscover their faith in Jesus or discover what a joy it is to be welcomed into His Kingdom.
