Often times, I feel directly responsible for what happens to my students. If something exciting happens, it's because of my influence. If something doesn't go according to plan, it's my fault.
As you can guess, this is quite problematic. Yes, I have a role to play, but I do not make anything happen. I am under the guidance and leadership of God. Ultimately, He is the One who initiates people to follow Him. He is the One who knows what will happen before it happens.
So God reminded me again in a powerful way that He is in charge and that I just need to follow Him faithfully. My staff colleagues and I were praying in small groups on our last day together in Mexico City. We had Revelation 7 read out to us, and were asked to share the one word or phrase that stuck out as the passage was being read.
For a while, nothing was sticking out. I kept thinking about the passage in context of how my staff team in the Hamilton/Niagara/Brantford region studied it. That wasn't helpful, because I knew that God has some new words for me.
Anyway, as I asked God to clear my head and give me a word or phrase, I heard this:
"For the Lamb at the centre before the throne will be their shepherd..."
It hit me loud and clear. The Lamb is the shepherd. The shepherd leads his sheep. The sheep only have to follow behind. And in that moment, I could hear God telling me that I needed to stop worrying about my ministry and trying to reach the goal of launching 20,000 extraordinary Kingdom leaders by myself.
He said to me, "I am the Shepherd. You are my sheep. Follow behind Me. Everything will be fine."
May I truly believe this.
