(The title was one my friend used to preach at her church last year, after Easter. So if you think it's clever, it was all her, not me.)
Easter is an important time in our Christian calendar since it marks Jesus' death and resurrection after being crucified. We put a lot of emphasis up until Good Friday (e.g. Lent and Passion Week) and have a big celebration on Easter Sunday, and then we all go on our merry way.
Since last year, I have been wondering, what happens after the Easter service at church? Do we go back to our normal way of living? Or do we live in a way that actually celebrates the crucified Christ, where we honour Him with everything that we do?
You may think that I am having a faith crisis, but do not worry, I am not. Rather, as I have pondered more about Jesus' death and resurrection, I think that there was something more He intended for us. Rather than go back to our regular day job, like the disciples did after Jesus was crucified, I believe that we are called to be witnesses of God's goodness and faithfulness.
I don't think it means that we all leave our day jobs, but we need to live differently. We need to live in a way that shows we believe our Saviour conquered death. We need to align our principles and our values to His Kingdom.
So as I commemorate this Easter season, my prayer is that we would live under the authority of Jesus and the Kingdom of God. And not only live, but experience the Life and joy that Kingdom of God has to offer.
